The Benefits of Acupuncture for Athletes

Have you ever considered utilizing acupuncture as part of your maintenance and/or recovery plan? The benefits of acupuncture have long been known to help relax and restore muscle groups, but what are the direct benefits of acupuncture for athletes?

We firmly believe in including acupuncture as part of our regular routine, which is why we were so happy to welcome Almine to our team as we complete our full vision of creating a center that provides a “one stop shop” of the best in athletic performance, recovery, therapy, training, and community!

Acupuncture is beneficial for all athletes, but we recently found this blog post from Runner’s World and had to share as it speaks directly to the benefits of using acupuncture to treat sports injuries and for maintenance while training hard to prevent injury from occuring. The goal of acupuncture is to bring balance back to the body, which is what we’re all after so that we can train and compete at the highest level!

What makes acupuncture different from other types of therapy, and how can you use it to help your body recover faster as you train?  Here are just a few examples of how acupuncture can help your recovery and performance:

  • Triggers the body’s response to heal
  • Pinpoints the causes of pain, imbalances, and chronic injuries
  • Helps prevent injuries
  • Improves muscle fiber mobility
  • Improves flexibility
  • Improves chronic running-related stress
  • Maximizes the “treatment affect” by going deep into the muscles
  • Direct method of treatment
  • Increases blood flow to speed healing

Bend Sports Acupuncture with Almine

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing to take place. These points are selected based on years of training acupuncturists receive based on over 3,000 years of experience in China and Japan. Almine focuses on sports recovery, pain relief, and injury treatment in her acupuncture practice specializing in the methods used by the Sholin Monks and warriors of Japan. She threads thin Japanese needles into the tissue in order to release trigger points and relieve tension…it is incredible and effective!

Treatments commonly last anywhere from 60-75 minutes, and she commonly utilizes electric stim, herbs, and cupping in her acupuncture appointments along with the Japanese needles.
