Exercise for Cancer Patients: BMC Vitality Fitness Program

Exercise for Cancer Patients: BMC Vitality Fitness Program

📅March 31st, 2015, 07:00

Being diagnosed with cancer can be incredibly scary and overwhelming – both for the patient and their loved ones. Though cancer itself is scary, research over the past few years has come a long way in helping us treat the illness. In addition to treatment, we’re also starting to understand better strategies for life with cancer, one of which is our favorite: exercise!

Recent studies have shown exercise for cancer patients is definitely a possibility during treatment – and that it’s not only safe, but helps drastically improve quality of life. With information like this at our fingertips, we are so excited to partner with Bend Memorial Clinic and Katie Mital, Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer, to bring the BMC Vitality Fitness Program to Recharge!

Exercise is a possibility for cancer patients and survivors, but it’s important to be aware of what type of exercise is being prescribed at what point in treatment or recovery to ensure it’s supporting the body’s natural healing process.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to help cancer patients and survivors re-introduce safe and appropriate movement into their lives. I pursued certification as a Cancer Exercise Trainer when I watched a friend go through treatment for breast cancer and saw what a benefit movement – even a little bit – was to her both physically and emotionally. I’ve since worked with cancer patients and survivors and have seen them achieve similar benefits. I’m grateful to have this opportunity to team up with BMC and Recharge for this program, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Just like Katie, we are always excited to find new ways to help people safely incorporate movement – whether they are training for an event, or looking to improve their quality of life.

“Recharge is very excited to host this amazing program partnering with the Bend Memorial Clinic and Katie Mital that will help cancer patients, as well as those in remission, get moving again and back on the road to better health. Our mission is to help people along their journey to reach their full potential, and the BMC Vitality Fitness Program will help so many get and feel better while focusing on what their bodies are capable of!”
