Protein Packed Recovery Meal – Tacos!

After tough workout sessions, I am always trying to come up with a quick and tasty protein packed recovery meal when I get home. I have quite a few recipes that I revisit when I need that extra punch of protein. But my favorite recovery recipe comes in taco form! This recipe is great because it provides more than enough protein for recovery and can be put together quickly so you can get that protein in your system within 1 hour of your workout for ultimate muscle repair. Oh yeah, and it’s delicious!

-1 cup shredded chicken (can cook ahead of time to speed things up, I always add lots of cumin and garlic!)

-2 to 3 egg whites cooked

-fresh veggies: lettuce, onion, tomato, cilantro, sliced avocado

-plain Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream, has 8 more grams of protein)

-fresh lime wedges

-corn or flour taco tortillas

Add whatever else you want to the mix…just layer all ingredients into the tortilla and add a fresh squeeze of lime if desired! Switch the chicken out for steak or fish if you aren’t in the mood for chicken. Just be sure to try out the Greek yogurt and egg whites. They are healthy sources of protein that add a lot to the dish and aren’t always thought about as ingredients for the classic taco. This meal also goes really well with a margarita…Cheers to recovery!
